Ideas For Finishing Concrete Basement Walls

Shape and Style the Space

Define a cellar area with curved walls and interesting artwork. The wall here started with a framework of studs. It is covered with veneer panels raised wood blocks to produce the wainscoting and overlaid with molding. Above the chair rail, a hand-painted mural depicts a scene of dogs playing billiards, look more to here.

A Vibrant, Beautiful, Budget End

Create the drape panels from canvas painter's drop cloths and attach large grommets to the top border. Slide the drapes onto galvanized pipe. Mount the pipe using galvanized round floor flanges (found in the pipes supply section of a house centre).

Create a Message Board

Staple batting and fabric to the wall prior to installing the baseboard and crown molding. Stretch ribbon onto the diagonal from floor to ceiling to make diamonds. In a furniture tack, hammer at every intersection of diagonals to make a tufted appearance.

Create Architectural Interest

Basement walls take on handsome Art Deco-style using normal lumber--4x8 plywood sheets of rotary-sawn walnut wood and solid poplar 2x3 battens. The poplar attached over the joints between the plywood sheets and is stained dark walnut.

Cover the Wall with Pegboard

Centering the television under the little basement window performs down the awkward size and position of the window. Covered with a sheer organza shade embellished with metal washers, it looks like a piece of artwork.
